"Blue" was composed by trumpeter and educator, Bobby Shew. He told me the story of how he came to write this tune. Blue Mitchell, (with Horace Silver for many years), a fellow band member with Bobby Shew on the Louis Belson orchestra and other bands, passed away on May 21, 1979. Bobby was moved to compose this tune as a dedication to Blue Mitchell and he sent it to me use on my new album, Blue After Hours. I am very happy that he did as it is my hands-down favorite on the album.
